Instead of snooping around, ask your kids about whatever doubts you have.
Have you ever suspected if your kid got the mark sheet but didn't tell you? Or maybe was talking to someone and hid the phone as soon as you entered?
It is natural to have these doubts, especially when you are parenting a teenager.
However, it is important to make sure you do not doubt and simply ask. Why? We will tell you.
If you keep spying on them, your kids will start to drive you away. In no time, you will observe them trying to steal their moments away from you. Not to scare you off, but this can also make them purposely hide everything from you -- even if it is a truth.
Okay, take a deep breath before you read this because this one is scary. If you keep snooping around and your kids suspect you of it, there is a chance they might start retaliating. Sometimes kids tend to get angry and purposely do the opposite of what is being instructed just to get back at you.
Kids, especially the younger lot, start to get scared of their parents if they feel it would land them in trouble. And when parents act as the FBI, they get scared of the consequences. This makes the kids so scared that sometimes it affects their overall personality. So if your kid is being extra quiet and tends to stay aloof, do talk to them and maybe study your behaviour towards them.
Instead of snooping around, ask your kids about whatever doubts you have. Once you start asking questions and believing them, children are bound to open up about their problems and trust you. Just remember, do not manipulate them. Even if you do not agree with them, reason out your concerns with them.
